Hey everyone!
ElegantTrout here, adding a new series to the mix. Apart from my free-writes (which I only have one publicly published), I've got my Food Adventures posts and my ElegantTrout Reviews posts, where I observe and deconstruct restaurants that I've visited a minimum of 3 times and video games that I've played for at least 4-8 hours, depending on the genre.
Now, with Tunes and Trouts, I'll hopefully be adding some tunes to the playlist. Spread the jams, so to speak. Pardon if I don't have any of my other posts for a while, I had an incident just earlier today where all my drives were wiped clean and I've yet to recover pictures and various software.
I mostly share songs that I like. Things that I'm comfortable with that I enjoy now or have enjoyed before. But that won't rule out stuff that I'm conflicted about or don't like. I'll just have to detail it more or explain myself more. We've all got different tastes, and you're the final judge of what you think.
Anyways, without further ado... Let's begin!
Artist: Death Grips
Album: Bottomless Pit
Song: Spikes
I've been a fan of Death Grips ever since I was first introduced by a friend to their early mixtape Exmilitary. It wasn't long that I was so... deeply engrossed by the spirit, the wide mental energies, by their music. After binge-listening the entire mixtape day after day, I eventually made my way onto their next releases: The Money Store, No Love Deep Web, Government Plates, and The Powers that B. These albums were next to flawless when it came to unique, raw energy, creativity, performance value, and a real hard look at humanity.
When Bottomless Pits came out, I couldn't wait to hear it, but I felt as though I'd have high expectations for their songs since I've been familiarized with their tunes so far. Oh boy. Oh boy, oh boy...
I love to say that I'm "pleasantly surprised" every once in a while. I just like that saying. For once, that just doesn't describe what I felt. I was blown away. Almost every song was an instant like or love. The one I'm sharing right now is "Spikes", which I feel has some of the catchiest hooks throughout their discography, and that says a friggin' lot. Great skating song if my knees were any better. Haha. Anyways, some of my other favorite songs from the album are: "Eh", "Trash", and "Hot Head."
Hopefully, I'll get to see them at The Warfield come September 24 when they perform.
Artist: Tei Shi
Album: Verde
Song: Bassically
Tei Shi was more of a sleeper hit for me. That's not a bad thing, I like surprises.
I came across her music during the Grimes concert at Oakland at 4/20. She gave an absolutely stellar opening performance, one of the best opening acts I've ever seen at a gig. Seriously, the vocal capabilities to come out, the catchy synth, the solid bass line... So, so good. So good, I had to look her up immediately after the performance and write a note for myself to not forget her name.
And I didn't forget.
I remember "Basically" to be one of her high powered, high energy songs. What with her emotional wailing, dropping on the floor and everything. It was so impressive. When I found the track online, I immediately liked it, although I had a realization. The bass, ironically enough, was lacking. The live performance had better bass all throughout, and that's something I find consistent with her studio recordings. I wish the bass had a stronger natural presence.
Anyways, Tei Shi released two EPs so far, Verde and her debut Saudade. Alongside "Bassically" for Trouty earworms are: "Nevermind the End", "See Me", and "Go Slow". She's got a lot of pop prowess and awesome backing tracks, all which revolve around her sultry, alluring, powerful, and capable voice. I do believe she's got new music coming out sometime as announced on her Twitter, but there isn't really much to see if anything right now. Nonetheless, worth the wait to see what she'll grow into.
I've only got two shares for today. For my next installments of Tunes and Trouts, I'll try to make more of an effort to increase it to a minimum of 3, though 5 would be the ideal number to eventually slide into once I get into the groove of writing things.
Also, if you've got some tunes, feel free to share! I'm always interested in listening to music I've never heard before, as well as anyone's opinion on certain well known artists or songs. What earworm do you have in mind?
